Why We Publish Our Veterinary Prices

You’re not imagining it: pet care has become more expensive, and the uncertainty around “what it’s going to cost this time” only adds to the stress. That stress doesn’t stop with you; pets pick up on our emotions, which means financial worry can carry over into the exam room.

That’s why we publish our veterinary prices openly as a guide to help you prepare. This page gives you a baseline of what to expect for common visits and procedures, along with what’s included and why. Every appointment is still customized to your pet in real time, so final costs may vary. Sharing this information is also part of our Fear Free approach: when you feel calm and prepared, your pet feels it too.

We believe good medicine and good communication go hand in hand. When you understand what goes into your pet’s care, you can feel confident that every decision is grounded in safety, compassion, and respect for both you and your animal.

Trusted by families across Summerville, Cane Bay, Nexton, and Carnes, our team is proud to deliver care that puts both pets and people at ease.

About Our Pricing

Exams & Wellness

A hands-on exam is how we gather an enormous amount of information about your pet’s health. Our doctors check eyes, ears, teeth, and gums; listen to the heart and lungs; feel the abdomen and joints; and note any lumps, bumps, or areas of tenderness. Even subtle things, like the way your pet walks into the room or the smell of their breath, can point us toward important answers.

Just as important, it’s also the time when we listen to you. Every concern, question, or “something just feels off” matters, and it all becomes part of the plan we create together.

Vaccines

Vaccines protect pets from serious, preventable diseases, but we know many families have questions about what’s truly necessary. Our doctors take the time to walk you through each option, explain why we recommend certain vaccines, and tailor a plan based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

Cane Bay only uses Purevax vaccines for cats. These vaccines are specifically designed to reduce the risk of vaccine-associated injection site reactions and are considered the safest option for cats.

Spay & Neuter Surgery: All-Inclusive Packages

Spaying and neutering are among the most important preventive surgeries in veterinary medicine. They protect against infections and certain cancers, reduce roaming and marking behaviors, and help prevent unplanned litters.

At Cane Bay, these surgeries are never treated as routine. Every patient receives pre-anesthetic bloodwork, IV fluids, pain management, and continuous monitoring by trained staff. Our team follows a Fear Free approach from start to finish—gentle handling, comfort items, and careful recovery support.

What Makes Spay & Neuter Surgeries at Cane Bay Different

  • One comprehensive fee covers everything – no surprise add-on charges
  • Individualized care – we only perform 2-3 surgeries per day with dedicated technicians, unlike high volume clinics who routinely perform 15+ surgeries per day
  • Fear Free approach – pre-visit medications reduce stress and start pain and nausea control before surgery, calming music and pheromones reduce stress and anxiety
  • Comprehensive pain management – others offer just a single injection for pain control; we take a more extensive approach to ensure your pet is comfortable
  • Comfort care – your pet has a comfortable bed and warm blankets to snuggle in, are walked 3 times a day, and receive a nutritious meal following the operation.
  • Continuous monitoring – trained staff monitor your pet throughout the entire procedure

Every Spay & Neuter Package Includes

  • Pre-Operative Exam
  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork
  • Anesthesia with IV fluids
  • Continuous monitoring by trained staff
  • Multi-modal pain management
  • E-collar
  • Fear Free recovery care

Procedure Price Range Notes
Feline Spay $700+ Tailored for each female cat’s age, weight, and health
Feline Neuter $500+ Same comprehensive care, adjusted for male cats
Canine Spay $800+ Adjusted for weight; comprehensive care for female dogs included
Canine Neuter $700+ Same comprehensive care, adjusted for male dogs

Pre-op bloodwork ($100-$190) is required within 3 months of surgery date to ensure your pet is a good candidate for an anesthetic procedure. This cost is included in the comprehensive surgery package price. Additional charges may apply for pets in heat, pregnant, or with special risk factors.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Spay/Neuter Provider:

You may see spay and neuter surgeries offered at a lower cost elsewhere. Price is important, but it’s not the only factor that determines your pet’s safety or comfort. The quality of anesthesia, monitoring, and recovery support can vary greatly from one clinic to another.

Before you make a decision, we encourage you to ask any provider (including us!) these questions:

What’s included in the quoted price?
Are there additional charges for pain medication, e-collar, bloodwork, or monitoring?

What type of pain management do you provide?
A single injection or comprehensive multi-modal protocol?

How many surgeries do you perform per day?
Volume clinics may rush through procedures vs. individualized care.

Will my pet have a dedicated technician?
Or will staff be split between multiple patients?

Do you provide pre-visit anxiety medication?
This Fear Free approach reduces stress before your pet even arrives.

Dental Care for Cats and Dogs

Dental disease is one of the most common health problems in pets, and it often hides below the gumline where you can’t see it. At Cane Bay Veterinary Clinic, every dental procedure includes full-mouth radiographs and anesthesia—this enables us to thoroughly clean your pet’s teeth while keeping them safe and comfortable throughout.

As pet owners ourselves, we know anesthesia can be scary. You’re trusting us with someone you love, and we take that responsibility seriously. While non-anesthetic “cleanings” can make teeth look better, they don’t reach below the gumline, where real disease lives. It’s like buying whitening toothpaste when you really need a root canal: it might look cleaner, but the problem’s still there. That’s why anesthetic dental cleanings are so important for your cat or dog’s health.

While the risk for anesthetic complications in healthy pets is extremely low (less than 0.25%!), we always plan and prepare for every possibility. Before each procedure, we run lab work and a full exam to confirm your pet is ready for anesthesia. During the dental work, our team actively monitors heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, and oxygen levels to catch and adjust if anything looks off. Every detail of our dental care is designed for safety and comfort for your pet.

Because the extent of dental disease and associated treatments can vary so much, we provide a range for typical costs:

Procedure Starting Price What’s Included
Healthy Smile Cleaning (Pets aged 4 and under) $530 Exam, pre-op lab work, anesthesia, IV fluids, full-mouth radiographs, ultrasonic scaling and polish, and monitoring. Designed for pets 4 years and under and focused on preventing dental disease before it starts. Keeping up with yearly cleanings allows you to lock in this special pricing for your pet!
Comprehensive Cleaning (Pets older than 4) $750+ Includes all of the above, plus extended anesthesia time, advanced charting, and oral surgery support if needed. Recommended for pets over 4 years old who haven’t had regular cleanings, or those with existing dental disease.

Dental extractions are not included in the base cleaning cost. Because every mouth is different, extractions are priced separately and added to your estimate if needed. We’ll explain the findings and review costs with you before proceeding.

When Your Pet Isn’t Feeling Well

Not every visit is routine. When your cat or dog starts vomiting, won’t stop scratching, or suddenly comes up with a limp, you need clear next steps and a plan you can trust.

At Cane Bay, we’re here when your pet needs some extra TLC. Our sick visits start with a full, hands-on exam, followed by targeted diagnostics so we can move from worry to answers. The examples below show typical diagnostic workups only. Medications and treatments, if needed, are discussed with you after diagnostic results and are not included in these totals.
